Artist Opportunities

Through the ARTS
2007 Summer Institute

August 7 – 9, 2007 in Orlando, Florida

Special opportunities for artists and arts organizations.

The ARTS (music, drama, dance and visual arts) are powerful tools for teaching and learning in schools and communities. This Institute will give artists the inspiration, knowledge and skill to provide students in schools and in community settings with a complete education Through the ARTS. This professional development opportunity, open to anyone interested in learning in, through and about the arts, provides an unusual opportunity for artists and community arts organizations to explore arts integration in a team setting with school administrators, arts and classroom/subject area teachers.

In addition to sessions in which artists will learn along with educators, a special session for artists will be offered on Wed., Aug. 8. Artists are invited to share their artist-in-the-schools programs and to network with participating schools at an Artists' Showcase on Wednesday afternoon. Individual planning for arts integration as well as review of your current artist-in-the-schools materials will be offered.

There will be a special session for artists:

  • To build understanding and skill in sharing your art form with school groups as an “artist-in-the-schools”
    • The “language” of the school
    • Standards-based learning Through the ARTS
    • Making connections with schools
    • Individual reviews/critiques of your “artist-in-the-schools” materials will be provided upon request (optional)

Artists’ Showcase: Artists will exhibit their school-based programs and network with school groups to connect community resources to school interests and needs

  • To link schools and communities Through the ARTS

Planningfor arts integration:

Sessions will be offered to artists and arts organizations planning for arts integration; facilitators will work directly with you in the planning process.

    • Participants will be paired with a facilitator who will assist them in planning for cross-curricular arts integration and for school/community change Through the ARTS

The Team of experts who will work directly with artists will be led by
