2009 Summer
Institute
Special opportunities for Artists and Arts Organizations
The ARTS (music, drama, dance and visual arts) are powerful
tools for teaching and learning in schools and communities.
This Institute will give artists the inspiration, knowledge
and skill to provide students in schools and in community settings
with a complete education . This
professional development opportunity, open to anyone interested
in learning in , through and about the
arts, provides an unusual opportunity for artists and community
arts organizations to explore arts integration in a team setting
with school administrators, arts and classroom/subject area
teachers.
In addition to sessions in which artists will learn along
with educators, a special session for artists will be offered
on Wednesday, July 23. Artists are invited to share their artist-in-the-schools
programs and to network with participating schools during Round
Table Discussions at lunch on Wednesday. Individual planning
for arts integration as well as review of your current artist-in-the-classroom
materials will be offered.
There will be a special session for artists :
- To build understanding and skill in sharing your art form
with school groups as an “artist-in-the-classroom”
- The “language” of the school
- Standards-based learning

- Making connections with schools
Planning for arts integration :
Sessions will be offered to artists and arts organizations planning
for arts integration; facilitators will work directly with
you in the planning process.
- To develop a strategic plan for you to integrate the arts
in your work.
- Participants will work with the artist facilitator who
will assist them in planning for cross-curricular arts
integration and for school/community change
