Gallery Visits : We encourage you to visit the Galleries of the Orlando Museum of Art also in Loch Haven Arts Park. The current exhibit, Jerry Pinkney: Aesop's Fables and Other Tails features more than 65 original watercolor illustrations. Pinkney's delightful portrayals of animals from such well-known Aesop's fables as “The Tortoise and the Hare” and “The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing” are sure to spur many thoughts for your own classroom!

For Artists/Arts Organizations

In this session for teaching and performing artists, arts organization personnel, and school personnel, we will dialogue about what each arm of the Artists in Education collaborative needs to know and do in order to develop and implement successful experiences. Get the scoop on school culture and “educationese.” Materials and models will be discussed and evaluated. Participants are encouraged to bring their own materials as the basis for discussion of what worked, what didn't work, and why.

Getting Started with Through the ARTS

In this session, hear from teachers who are successfully implementing Through the ARTS concepts, strategies, and materials in their classrooms.

Ignite Writing through Book Illustrations – Jude Goodier-Mojher, Associate Curator of Youth and Family Programs, Orlando Museum of Art

Experience an expert tour of Pinkney’s Aesop’s Fables illustrations as the basis for enhancing students’ writing skills and interests.

Artists in Education: Making Connections - Donna Wissinger, Flutist and Florida-based Teaching Artist, Jacksonville

This session provides an opportunity to learn more about the work of an artist in education. An experienced “career” teaching artist will share “how-to” tips, large and small!

ARTS II Sessions will share materials and strategies for thematic teaching. Sessions in music, visual arts, drama, and movement/dance will be offered.

Shakespeare for KIDS? – Bob Dolan, Education Director, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre (OST)

Learn about innovative OST approaches that enhance student engagement and interest in “the basics” while building their confidence, presentation and reading skills through drama.

Standards as the Basis for Arts Integration

Dr. Linda Lovins, Fine Arts Specialist with the Florida Department of Education, will assist participants, especially artists/arts organizations, in aligning plans and programs to implement effective standards-based learning experiences.

IPods for Learning – Andrea Barr, Education Trainer, Apple Computers (invited)

Experience new approaches to using Ipods as a powerful and engaging learning tool for your classroom.

Principal Job-Alike Sharing Sessions

An Informal “job-alike” discussion/exploration session for principals leading school transformation Through the ARTS.

Planning for Successful Arts Integration

School teams and individuals will develop site-specific strategic plans for arts integration. Artists/arts organizations will develop strategic plans for arts integration offerings within school and/or after school settings. Facilitators will assist in planning for cross-curricular arts integration and for school/community change Through the ARTS.
